We haven't heard from our favourite red-head singer in a while, but Ed Sheeran has taken a break from his social media hiatus for a very sweet reason.

Nine-year-old Melody Meadows, a Sheeran superfan who suffers from Rett syndrome (a rare brain condition), was surprised with a hospital visit from Ed!

His visit was prompted by a plea from Melody's Mother. Writing on Twitter, Karina Driscoll said: "My gorgeous little girl Melody absolutely LOVES Ed Sheeran. we are determined to make her dream of meeting him come true."

And they did. Paying her a surprise visit, gifting her a signed pink guitar!

He then sang two of his hit songs, Thinking Out Loud and Photograph on Melody's new instrument:

OMG, could Ed be any more perfect?!

'One of the problems is constant pain and she's on morphine,' a member of staff from the Casey Ward told Ed. 'But we put you on and it helps.'

Dr Ruth Charlton said: 'We are so touched that Ed would take the time out of his busy schedule to visit Melody and the other young patients on the ward.

'We would like to thank Ed for coming - this was a very special day for our staff, our patients and of course, Melody.'

Melody's Mother shared the experience on Twitter and it's giving us all the feels:

We are so happy for this sweet little girl! Thanks for making our days once again, Ed.
