Max Key's exes reportedly hit back on reality TV

Two of Max Key’s exes have applied to be on the second season of TVNZ 2’s Heartbreak Island, Spy understands.

Key’s former girlfriend Renee Brown and his former DJ duo partner Joshua Troskie are said to be very keen to play the dating game with the other singles, when the show starts filming in Fiji in October.

Brown and Key made headlines in January when Key revealed he was punching above his weight, beside a picture of the couple.

A loved-up Valentine’s Day followed, where Key declared: “It may be our first, but it won’t be our last.”

It was their last. In July he declared he was single again.

Brown, a former architect and psychology student, is not afraid of the spotlight. She once appeared in a women’s magazine with former beau and Blackcap Mitchell McClenaghan.

In November 2014, Key and Troskie launched their first track under the DJing name TROSKEY, and made national headlines. Not long after, they went their separate ways with their music and social media lives.

Troskie has continued to DJ and is a regular around the inner-city clubbing scene. Spy wouldn’t be surprised if another ex of Key’s made a play for the show too. Media graduate Amelia Finlayson was at the first season launch of Heartbreak Island earlier this year and made no secret of her desire to score a spot on the island.

TVNZ would not be drawn on its casting, but said: “No doubt when we do announce you’ll all see some familiar faces, given how small New Zealand is.”

Insiders say that Imagination TV, the Heartbreak Island production company knows it must up its game with the show’s format and give it more punch this time around. What better way than to get those who were once close to Key to dish some dirt?
